Can I just add that any links included on the post to the original source, as well as being courtesy to the author it does help with out Search Engine results, it creates linkbacks/refbacks.

Some sites state in their 'rules' that they retain copyright on all content and permission is required to post elsewhere.

Is an acknowledgement to the original location enough to satisfy against copyright infringement when such definite terms are set out?

I would have thought a small exceprt or description of what it is and a link ( or full reference to author/publication etc) to the original article/post/document would be enough and wouldnt cause any poop copyright wise (thats what we tend to do with news articles anyway). It is polite to ask the writer/poster if its something like a blog or forum post though.

If you are the original writer/poster then you retain the copyright and are free to copy your own work anywhere you chose (unless contractually restricted) (just thinking forum post wise)
