Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is set to miss the club's next two league games after injuring his ankle in the win against Real Madrid on Wednesday night. The Spaniard has already sat out much of the season through injury and is likely to miss the trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday and the game against Sunderland.

Everton have also lost a key Spanish player through injury as Mikel Arteta has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Arteta has been in fantastic form since the turn of the year but ruptured ligaments in his knee during the draw with Newcastle last weekend, and will be out for six months.

Liverpool and Chelsea have a chance to close the gap on Manchester United this weekend as the leaders are playing Tottenham in the Carling Cup final. The gap at the top stands at seven points, but a win for Liverpool at Middlesbrough would put the pressure back on United, while Chelsea can stay in touch by beating Wigan.

Hull and Blackburn will be trying to get their seasons back on track when they clash in one of four intriguing games on Sunday. Both have showed glimpses of a revival but need to record wins if they are to move up the table. Manchester City could get a rare away win at West Ham who have gone of the boil in recent games.

It's nice not being top dog for a while, I could sense the hate and jealousy from all parts. The main reason my team did so bad this week was because most were playing in the league cup and does not qualify for this league. So Stevo enjoy your brief stay at the top; The dog is on your heels.:beagle:

After a season of so-called title deciders Manchester United can wrap up the Barclays Premier League crown on Saturday lunchtime, by beating deadly rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford. United are seven points clear at the top, and have a game in hand, but Liverpool crushed European giants Real Madrid in midweek.

At the other end of the table there is a genuine relegation six pointer as established Barclays Premier League duo Middlesbrough and Portsmouth battle it out for their survival. The pair find themselves in the bottom three following a dismal campaign and will be fighting for a win that could move them out of the relegation zone.

Michael Owen is expected to make his comeback for Newcastle this weekend against Hull, after recovering from the ankle ligament injury that has kept him out of the last five matches. The England striker has scored 30 goals in 70 appearances for the Toon Army and returns with the club languishing in 17th place.

West Ham midfielder Jack Collison will be out for up to seven weeks after dislocating his kneecap in the win over Wigan last week. The talented youngster joins fellow midfielder Valon Behrami on the sidelines who was ruled out for six months with a knee ligament injury.
