Re: Simon Binner: Terminally ill man announces death on LinkedIn

This country would be a better place without all those do-gooders who always want to decide what's best for others!
As a smoker, drinker and consumer of chips……I couldn’t agree more!

An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good'!

I'm all against the Nanny State! The government's place is not to tell us what to eat or not to eat. The smoking bans should be aimed at protecting those who don't smoke rather than forcing smokers to quit. However, I can see if euthanasia was legal, it could probably be twisted and exploited by of greedy relatives who can't wait to get rid of their wealthy uncle/father/in-law/hubby/wife/mum [delete as appropriate]. It would also place a great burden on the medical profession, WHO would be in charge of administering the lethal injection?

        For the record
It is fact that the Harold Shipman case has prevented G.P.s and Doctors from using cheap effective painkillers to treat patients because they are too scared that if the patient dies they will be pilloried by the media.
Isn't that the same as your rallying cry ?

Those are objective facts , I am not being emotional or bringing supposed deities into this

My point was that because of Harold Shipman AND the emotive comments of people who believe that life is sacred Doctors are too scared to to use these cheap and effective drugs. Sometimes patients are also too scared to receive them .

I wish I could quote the exact source but I believe it was on Radio 4's Today programme

As I said right at the start I do have reservations against assisted suicide because there needs to be a clear un pressured desire by the patient to end their life

Life in itself is not something I think any of us really understand.

For me it still remains one of the greatest "unanswered questions"

We know for sure we are going to go at some stage.

There is no law or otherwise that states the individual must suffer before paying the ultimate price.

              Final point

              Whatever Judgemental may think
It is not against the law to prescribe medicines in such doses that they hasten the end of life PROVIDING the over riding reason for prescribing them was to relieve symptoms

Not ready to book a flight to Switzerland just yet, but if/when the time comes I would certainly consider it, I believe in freedom of choice.

Why is Sharon Googling one way tickets to Switzerland for me? I said choice dear, seems you have other plans for me.

If the time comes, I have enough pills to save on the flight but I am older than you so may need them first
