Re: Press release: CMA advises schools and suppliers over uniform prices

This used to annoy me so much when the lads were at school! Just before I took them out, the school brought in 'compulsory' school blazers at a cost of £25 each (not cheap :sad, even worse when they insist on logo'd PE kits and school ties!

This was the 'minimum' school uniform etc:
    Main Uniform (Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11)

    • Grey School Blazer embroidered with the school logo - £25
    • School Tie - £3.50
    • Grey School Jumper embroidered with the School Logo (optional, worn under Blazer) - £12.00
    • White Blouse or White Shirt
    • Black Knee length Skirt or Black Tailored Trousers
    • Black sensible dress-style shoes

    PE Uniform

    GIRLS
    • Bottle Green Polo Shirt (Compulsory for Girls) - £4.00
    • Black Shorts
    • White Socks
    • Training Shoes
    • Black tracksuit bottoms, embroidered with the school logo - £12.00
    • Green Rugby Shirt (Optional for Girls) - £17.00

    BOYS
    • Green Rugby Shirt (Compulsory for Boys) - £17.00
    • White Polo Shirt
    • Black Shorts
    • White Football Socks
    • Training Shoes for indoors, Football Boots for outdoors
    • Black tracksuit bottoms, embroidered with the school logo - £12.00

even if you only bought one of everything, you've got an outlay of £69.50 (£73.50 for girls) per child. Then there's the school shoes, trainers, football boots, coats, bags etc... that every child would need. And the fact that they are still growing (so you'll need to replace regularly).

You can't buy the school badge separately either (and only one ONLINE shop sells it, so you've got postage to pay too)
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

It doesn't matter where your journey begins, so long as you begin it...

PE top maroon with vertical black trim and school logo £16
Polo shirt maroon with school logo £12
Hooded jumper black with school logo £24 ( they don't have one of those - too expensive )
Blazer black with school logo £24
Jumper or cardigan black v-neck with school logo £16
Tie clip on school tie (compulsory) £6
Socks for PE £6 ( knee high football socks)

times three children up till last July .... handing stuff down didn't really work as they didn't really grow in the right order, and my Son's blazer is sewn back up almost weekly.
