Re: Election 2015 – All the Manifestos

See I cant say it's rotten cause I and my parents did it, that would be totally two faced of me.
I can see the other side though as yes it didn't help everyone who did it and probably did more harm than good for many as I said earlier. It also helped the sharks prosper from the ones who became unstuck.
If indeed what the clown clones say the economy is growing and I personaly don't understand or know where then along with that interest rates will grow and many more will come unstuck.

Re: Election 2015 – All the Manifestos

Rtb it reminds my of the phrase in the programme "fire up the Quattro" seen as we are living in the past and re-hashing the Tory ideal. It wasn't long ago they brought out the bedroom tax to frighten people into smaller homes and along came the phrase "nobody is entitled to a home for life". Now instead of getting people to move to smaller properties they want hem to buy them. Apparently new homes are going to be funded by LA selling of redundant buildings and assets, if it was that easy why haven't they sold these assets to clear the deficit? Another policy to buy votes IMO but there all at it.

@M1 - Seriously, where is the evidence that people are having babies to get a council house?

Doncaster side of yorkshire, surrounding towns especially, blackpool and liverpool, were there is no work or prospects, the under 21s get hit the hardest popping out kids at 16 as its the only way to move away from skanky druggy parents and secure yourself a roof over there head.

I think if you gave 16yos, a weekly income, and a secure roof over their haed, the birth rate for there demographic would drop.

          .

Well one can hardly have expected signed confessions rather than anecdotal evidence when the question was asked.

Dundee, for a long enough time, had the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Scotland and it is a widely held belief some were to get further up the housing queue. Of course now that the rate is dropping all the do gooders and politicos are claiming it's the result of their hard work and nothing to do with the fact that housing is so scarce you're far from guaranteed a house if you get pregnant or deliberately become homeless.

Took me four years to get offered a council house with 3 children under 10.

Anyway, I was thinking more along the lines of the statistics on council housing allocated to under 20's with newborns.

eg.''only a small proportion (5%) of social renters were aged under 25.

Re: Election 2015 – All the Manifestos

The average house price in the UK is £272,000. Rental average hit £768 per month last year. The average salary is less than £30k. Is it any surprise that there is a huge need for housing association/ assisted/ council housing?
There are many people who, through no fault of their own, need assistance getting a roof over their head. I have lived through a couple of boom and bust cycles in the housing market but with estate agents, mortgage lenders and greedy vendors all out to make a killing the ‘busts’ do not last as long as the booms. When the big builders start to cry the government listen (just think of Lord McAlpine and you know the power these boys have) and in the past they have raised the stamp duty threshold and taken similar action to kick start the boom. When the ordinary people are struggling to get a home they tend to suggest they put their name on the end of a long list!
Some girls may believe the quickest way to get a home of their own is to get ‘sprogged up’ but this is a bit of a myth. When a friend of mine was a GP she did have very young single girls asking if they could have fertility treatment as they did not seem to be getting pregnant and wanted to get their own place! Naturally she liaised with local authorities and discovered they would only be eligible if they met other criteria and not just because they were single Mums. Yes, if you have children you will be on a priority list but only if there are other issues that mean you or your children are vulnerable. Remember a lot of single mums live with family in less than ideal conditions and many battered and abused women and children are living in shelters all over the country.
I have seen young single girls with the designer prams, state of the art phones and seem to have the life of riley on benefits but I also know there are many brave young girls out there struggling to keep things going and believe me theirs is not a life I would envy. I also know people with vey suspect bad backs who seem to get everything handed to them despite having a window cleaning round on the QT while many more people in desperate debilitating pain cannot get help to pay for transport to hospital appointments.
Some people seem to work the system better than others or are more successful. This goes for young, old, men, women, shirkers and criminals. It is not just single mums.
