Terrible, would it lead, if implemented, to an "increase" in diagnosis I wonder.

Diagnosing Dementia is very difficult and a visit to a GP will not in anyway be a conclusion.
There are many probably suffering with Dementia who do not even visit their GP once a year let alone on a regular basis. Many families will be worried their nearest and dearest may be suffering, but to put the onus on them to get them to their doctors is scary.
Although it has to be that the GP is the first port of call to get the ball rolling with this horrendous disease and it's treatment (there is no known cure) proper follow ups and examinations must be organised.
Believe me, been there wore the T Shirt, this is a very hard situation for families as well as the person who may have Dementia.

Here is some fab info from the Alzheimers Society as to how diagnosis is made

As a nurse worked with and cared for various dementias, its very difficult for the family's to cope
There are even more that have no family to help and care for them.
The youngest person I know was only in their 40s, we looked after their 100 year old grandmother, who was as sharp as a button, it was so sad to seem the grandchild go downhill, really quickly and eventually they did pass away.
(this was a long time ago before the medication that is available now).
I hope that if would lead to early help and support when it is most needed

That’s me ****** then. As soon as I turn up with yet another ‘low comedy’ gardening accident I will be written off.:dizzy:
Seriously though, look at the number of people needlessly taking drugs such as metformin and statins just because it makes a surgery look good on the NHS chart. Another ‘box ticked, bonus paid’ scheme that treats the patients like cattle. If anyone is a little, shall we say, confused then the GP is less likely to explore other options. God help us all.

An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good'!

Even when diagnosis is confirmed so few in the medical /caring profession know enough about Dementia to be of any value to sufferers and their families.
The big C has always been considered the most dreaded disease in our day and much research and many cures have been found and we are all grateful for that.
If you care for and watch someone with Dementia to the end and you yourself were given a choice of how your own life ended it would be the big C as opposed to the big D for me.
