It's called being financial industry brain washed...
I liked Fred Goodwin from the information that I had when I worked in the bank. I absolutely admit that. I can admit I admired the things he did up to a point because I understood the philosophy. HOWEVER, a fool would be the only one to say that his pursuit of ABN AMRO was a good move. Many analysts at the time suggested that RBS Group had bought the company at top notch. In fact, one article I read around the time suggested that the real reason to buy the company was for their American banks(which they had just sold separately to the toxic part of the business--which was not toxic at the time). That deal lead directly to the massive multi billion pound debt which RBS accumulate.
The other black knights were asleep whilst Fred drove the Royal Bank off the proverbial cliffs!
With Fred Goodwin and the issue of the Knighthood which is the topic of the latest difference in our opinion. He was knighted DIRECTLY for services to Banking, namely RBS Group and the direction of the business he was the CEO of, lead directly to the almost collapse of the whole bank(the stack of cards was only rescued by US lot, the taxpayer. The witch hunt was about Fred Goodwin and to be honest, I was surprised he did not put his knighthood up for sale on ebay, since his reputation is in tatters and he is synonymous with the biggest loss in UK corporate history. You want McKillop to lose his knighthood which was for services to the pharmaceutical industry and was given to him many years before. Again, I do not agree with that. Had it been for services to banking, then I would probably not have bothered to have said anything on this thread cos normally I read and then go back to other threads these days. With regards to the other two directors mentioned in the newspaper, Sir Peter Sutherland was an honorary knighthood since his nationality is Irish and I do not believe his honorary or paper knighthood is for services to industry, since he is a lawyer by trade if memory serves me right from his bio that I read yesterday. Robertson, was a government treasury secretary, I believe, and I'm not sure what his knighthood was for specifically but again it was unlikely to be for services to banking albeit it might be for services to business. The article does not suggest taking away the peerage from Lord Mathesson who did get his peerage for services to banking. He was the person who was responsible for the appointment of Fred Goodwin.

And they really do look like a bunch of trustworthy RBS men, especially Mckillop, who has the look of a wild west bandit...
You want knighthoods taken away but ultimately, the lynchpin, the head of the snake at the time lost his reputation when he had to seek government help, had to fall on his sword as a result, lost his title and let's be honest, would you want him running your business?

For the avoidance of doubt: For years now there has been a certain amount of banter between myself and leclerc about RBS and in particular, fred!

It wasn't just my suggestion that other black knights should lose the knighthoods:

And I am sure that you can at least think up something that is more original in your jibes than just "he's still got some of that RBS stuff in him". It's boring, it's pathetic and it's idiotic. I expect better, even from you, but clearly you can't separate the fact that I have a personal opinion on RBS Group that differs from you so you pick the easy label, the bank that sacked me 3 years ago. How original and still pathetic.
I give up attempting to have a discussion with you lot on RBS because that is all you have if you have no one else, just yourself to talk to. So shove it!

Pointless survey when RBS will soon be owned by Santander anyway and then they can have the title back again and probably with a bigger percentage

RBS is to sell a total of 318 branches to Santander, transferring just under two million customers nationwide.
The sale was forced by the European Commission following the Government's multibillion-pound bailout of the bank, which was crippled by the credit crunch.
A spokesman for RBS said: "We have written to all our customers to advise them of the sale and published further information in branches and on our websites.
"The legal transfer to Santander is expected to complete in the second half of 2012."

For the avoidance of doubt, RBS will not soon belong to Santander!

                      The comment doesn't make sense...
