    I think we should also remember that Lord Stoneham of Droxford was in fact Ben Stoneham who was, for a number of years, managing director of Portsmouth and Sunderland Newspaper group and is very aware of the serious and sinister issues of these super injunctions particularly the Goodwin affair and its implications.

    Whilst it is certainly absurd - not least of which because it won't apply to Scotland - publication of the alleged bint's name would not be in the public interest. There might be some interest shewn by some members of the public, but breaching her privacy really cannot be justified.

    On the other hand, maintaining the injunction does keep a rather boring story about an adulterous *anker in the news far longer than it really ought to be.

    In a fresh attempt to lift entirely an injunction protecting the identity of the woman, Richard Spearman QC had told the court the public have "an enhanced right to know" because taxpayers' money bailed out the bank in 2008.

    His gagging order was partially lifted when Lord Stoneham of Droxford used parliamentary privilege to reveal that the former RBS boss had an affair before the bank collapse.

    Today Mr Justice Tugendhat said he would allow more details of the affair to be published. But exactly what is to be permitted to be said about her job has still to be agreed by lawyers.

    Her legal team has been given 14 days' notice to challenge this order in the Court of
