  • Sign without seeing calculations

Hi, i am one of two executors of my mother's will.
I have been kept in the dark and had to find things out for myself i.e bank statements as her finances didn't add up. i was right.
All her possessions were taken out/ given way out of her home (which was brought 60% her, 40% the other executor (sibling), the week after her funeral, (2024) down the cutlery.
The other executor, who solely inherited the house, has finally applied for probate. The first i knew of I received a email to sign a legal statement which I have had nothing to do with or help calculate the sum that is included for my mother's assets.
Due to no contact between me and my siblings, I am reluctant to sign, as I don't and have not seen any of the calculations for the sum of estate.
advice would be welcomed, also if I got my mother's bank statements after death by proving i am an executor does this affect me if I want to renounce the role?

What have you been asked to sign?

If you do not understand it, or do not agree with it, then don't sign. Seek clarification or changes.

Hi sorry I have been asked to sign a legal statement for probate. Also in the role of an executor, I had to get copies of my mums bank statements after death due to suspicion of missing finances, where i was proved right. Does this class as intermeddling if I wish to renounce my role?

But what does the "legal statement" say?
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.

          Hi Pallasathena,

It basically said mums estate was £140,000, which includes a house, but I was querying all of mums possessions he got rid of just after we buried her.
I have now relinquished the role of executor.

          Kind regards
