This is the letter they send to companies on your behalf.

They presumably attempt to send them to the companies who have cold called you.

However their research capabilities are quite limited as they sent this letter to LegalBeagles registered address, and we don't sell pensions lol. Still nice of them to send us this gentleman's name and telephone number.

On the whole the TPS is very effective. Any reputable company that values its customers and its brand image takes the TPS very seriously. Sometimes mistakes happen, when they do if you make a complaint we can contact the company and ask them why they contacted you, warn them of their legal obligations and ask them to add you to their own Do Not Call list so that you do not receive any further calls.


We are aware that in recent months there has been a rise in the number of unsolicited calls being received by people registered on the TPS. These calls mainly from companies that deliberately ignore the law and either hide or disguise their identity. They might withhold the number they are calling from or display a fake number. They sometimes use generic sounding names that cannot be used to accurately identify an organisation . Solar Panels UK, PPI Claims Ltd etc or they may refuse to give you any details at all. Understandably this makes contacting these companies or targeting them for enforcement extremely difficult or even impossible.


There are thousands of calls every day from companies like these trying to benefit from short term financial opportunities based on generating sales leads for things such as accident claims, PPI claims, solar energy installation, and insulation grants etc.


If you receive an unwanted call but cannot get the information required to make a TPS complaint there is a form on the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) website where you can give them the details click here to report to the ICO

Bogus TPS Calls

Unregulated commercial suppression services, those making exaggerated claims and those operating fraudulently are not limited to the companies listed below.

It has come to our attention that some of these companies continually change their names. Please be aware of these companies and just because they are not listed here does not mean that they are legitimate. TPS is the official opt out register and registration is FREE.

The Telephone Preference Service is completely free to consumers.

TPS will not call a subscriber of the service to ask for personal details or payment to complete a registration.

If you have registered via the web and have received an e-mail confirmation and clicked on the attached link, that's it! Your number will be registered for FREE with TPS.

We will not contact you again in relation to your registration (unless you have number(s) registered with the Corporate TPS, where we will contact you annually by email to renew your subscription - this is still a free service).

If you do receive a call from someone claiming to be from the TPS or a similar sounding organisation, asking for personal information or charging you for this service, our advice is to not pay or give them any personal details, it is most likely a scam.

We are aware of a number of organisations that call from overseas, possibly India claiming to be TPS or affiliated with TPS or BT. They ask for your credit card details to complete a registration to stop unwanted calls. They often claim that you previously gave your permission for this call. This is a scam. Never give out your credit card details over the phone.

TPS is the only official Opt Out service that companies are required to abide by under the UK law and that is regulated by Ofcom. the UK Telecoms regulator and enforced by the Information Commissioners Office (ICO). If you have registered with any of the above companies or feel that you were misled into thinking that they were associated with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) please raise your concerns with the company directly or your local Trading Standards as appropriate. You may also wish to raise your concerns with your local Trading Standards if your experience of the effectiveness of the service for which you have paid any of these companies doesn.t reflect the claims made on the respective website.
