  • BT Special offers

    Can I have comments please

My daughter telephoned BT thi morning to enquire about any special offer packages because her bills seem quite high compared to what some other providers charge.

After a lengthy converation the advisor informed her that new customers on the same package as my daughter would pay £13.17 less per month, and that to take advantage of this special price she would need to cancel her contract and open a new account.

When my daughter instructed the advisor to cancel her account and create a new one the advisor informed her that she couldnt use her own name and her account would have to be set up in someone elses name.

My daughter refused to use someone elses name as this practice, to say the least seems extremely dubious and could possibly be construed as fraudulent.

hmmmm indeed, I can't imagine this is policy at all. Shows up the issue quite strongly that loyalty doesn't get rewarded at all. Did she get the 'advisors' name? I'd be inclined to take it further.

sounds like what the advisor is trying to advise is that to get the same offer as a new customer, you would need to cancel your account and then someone else in the household would set up in their name as they would be a new customer and take advantage of the price. In other words, the advisor doesnt seem to have offered anything on your account as a discount.

the same principle applies with Sky TV, they have been clamping down on the outrageous offers people want and if they don't get it the next best thing is usually offered to new customers. To circumvent this a member of the household would cancel their sky account and then another set it up in their name to get the offer. Sky only regards a new customer as someone who has not had a service for 12 months.

Obviously Sky and BT don't promote this practice but sounds like this is what the advisor is getting at.
