    Thank you for your e-mail and letting me know the situation relating to your Father. Obviously it is hard for me to comment without having all the details but clearly I take what you have told me as fact but need the full picture.

    I have asked my specialist team to get involved and to review the situation. I have also cued in the MD of our boiler installs business, Olly Kunc to see if we can help - we may be able to utilise some Government backed schemes to help make the price of a new boiler more competitive.

    The usual advice would be to get some alternative quotes.
    Check that they are registered with Gas Safe

      Well this matter is now concluded I have got a rebate of £165.38 and he is still insured on all things except his boiler which is being renewed later this week.
      Doubt I would renew this policy now at all as his boiler has a 10 year guarantee and anything else that pops up will need renewing and not repairing so a waste of money.


      ps I did try to get an explanation as to the costs of policy being different for everyone she said it was a case of where you live, what kind of appliances you have and how many call outs you have. So as Chas mentioned looks like they can charge what they like basically after the initial deal on your first 12 months.

          Btw, out of interest (read nosiness, lol), for the replacement boiler, did you use a local installer or one of the bigger companies?
          & by how much did quotes differ? (ballpark)

            I did use a local chap one that I can get to and strangle easily if it goes pear shaped.
            I only got the one chap actually as I felt comfortable with him and his work load was mad so that was enough for me tbh.
            The job is £1642.00 the boiler alone was £950, the rest is labour, wiring, etc. Could have been cheaper had I not gone for a good boiler with 10yr guarantee, don't know if this is a bargain or not but compared to BG it has to be lol.

              Shame you didn't get a BG quote - I could do with a good laugh!!

                Had all my central heating system renewed last year hun and the price you've quoted for boiler is roughly in the same area (not that I paid it,,it's a HA house)

                  BG could not give me a clue as to the price over the phone even though they knew my dads system and state of old boiler needless to say I expect it would be double the price I have and they would probably flog you Homecare on top lol

                    BG, at old address gave us a quote to replace the boiler, but we had to do it NOW otherwise it would go up!
                    Got another quote from a local company, not only cheaper but with a ten year guaranteed that was transferable to any new owner!
                    And he included the first year service as well.
