Hope this is the right place for this, if i can get some advice please. I have been hounded for about 8 years by TVLA. I have always had a licence. I have about 80 letters in all, going back at least 6 years, which I have kept. I had a doorstep visit about 4 years ago, and produced my licence. The Inspector said he would amend their records. I had the next threatening letter about 1 month later. In the first year of this i wrote to them, phoned them, send photocopies etc, but now I must admit I don't bother. I had another doorstep visit about a year ago, I told him I could not show the actual licence as I had paid online, but could give him the reference number which is only generated when payment is authorised but he refused and filled out his paperwork. I got a summons through the post 6 months later but I was quite glad to be going in truth. 3 days before the case they wrote to cancel it, with no word of apology. As part of my employment regulations I was required to tell my employers i was being taken to court, so that added to the hassle. Since then I am now on about my 6th letter from them. I have the past 8 years worth of licences, and about 80 letters from them. Would I be able to take them to my local Mags court under the Protection of Harassment myself? I did speak to a solicitor, but he said it would cost about £3000, which is too much. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Tv Licencing

I would suggest that the best course of action would be to contact your local MP.

Explain everything that has occurred and provide them with the letters and evidence of having a license throughout.

If you are unsure who your MP is then enter your postcode where asked on this site MP (TheyWorkForYou.com)

Please let us know how you get on.
Any opinions I give are my own. Any advice I give is without liability. If you are unsure, please seek qualified legal advice.

Rabbits, I've had a message at admin from the tvlicencing people, who have seen your post, and ask that you email them on support@tvlicencing.info - mention where you are from - and they will look into your case for you.

Let me know how it goes.

They have also asked if they can post on the forum, but i realise posters from companies are quite often treated with a lot of suspicion so thought it better I post myself.

I have check the address tvlicencing.info and it is bonafide and belongs to the Bbc.

          Re: Tv Licencing

I worked for TV lice for many years and I still have my badge....this is out sourced to Capita and thats who paid us.
They door people have codes what they need to fill in for a visit.
If the property is empty it is code 6
if the address is wrong then they use code 7 when returning the paperwork
I have the same problem due to the Post Office giving wrong addresses out
for example our property comes us with
          flats 1 to 4
          Garden Flat Basement Flat
Thats the reason as the system is wrong I suggest you check with your council and royal mail what address is registered This is where Capita get the info from and work on that basis
For non payers of Licence please note it is a Criminal Offence but they have to catch you with the TV plugged in and even if you dont have a TV you have a radio you still need a Licence
I once called at a flat he was a Policeman and didnt have a licence ... I knew that he would get done....so I let him off and booked his girlfriend (it was my job and they have targets to meet as they get a bonus)
I then called on a girl who was a Single Mom and was paying off her fine (which goes to the Goverment and not the BBC) her fine was so high she couldnt afford the Licence as well she was a support assistant in a school and not entitled to benefits...
I told Capita the house was empty to give her six months to catch up ...then I left the job on the grounds of Moral Do I reallly care if they have a licence I am sure I could get a better job so I did....
Hope this helps.......also most of the people that got caught werent that bothered
If they told me their name was Mickey Mouse when I cautioned them thats what I wrote on the form and left it up to Capita to sort it out!
