I had a tenant move out 2 years ago. Since march 2024 I started receiving txt messages from eon next. I received several phone calls asking to confirm my details. I advised the caller to send a bill or contact me by post. I have never received a bill. The text then jumped tov £1900. I have now received a letter from talc a debt collection agency demanding payment of said amount. Is this normal.

Of course it isn't normal. Tell them to stop it.

If the bill isn't in your name why did you ask them to send you a bill? How did they have your phone number to send texts and phone calls to if you weren't the occupier and it wasn't your account? It feels like there is more of a back story to this than you have posted.

        Hi Jones422

        Welcome to LB

Are you saying the tenant is responsible for paying the outstanding amount debt?

Energy companies will try to collect regardless of who actually owes the debt.

Send EON Next a Subject Access Request, get information on the 'billing'. Make sure you get Proof of Postage.

If it's the energy company's fault that they haven't 'billed' you correctly then 'back billing' may apply. Don't take it for granted that they are billing correctly.
