Timeshare touts come up with a new software scam
Conmen have found a new way to target timeshare owners wanting to off-load their points.
It starts with victims being invited to a “short” presentation, which turns into marathon hard sell by a company called Intelligent Software Solutions SL.
They claim to be able to buy your timeshare but in exchange they’ll flog you a CD called Realistix for around £4,500.
This, they say, gives access to thousands of resorts under RCI, the world’s largest timeshare exchange operation.
John Stephenson, of Bingley, West Yorkshire, was on holiday in Tenerife with his wife Lynne when he was reeled in with a salesman’s promise of help to dispose of their timeshare.
He said: “After more than four hours of intense hard selling, we were persuaded to sign up for this software package.
“We cancelled within the two-week cooling-off period but they said this was invalid as the packaging had been opened, even though this was done specifically at their request and was supposedly to ‘check the contents’.”
Nigel Wells, of Kingsmead, Cheshire, was also snared.
He said: “There’s a catch-22 in the deal. They say to open the software box to ensure the CD is OK and then state because you opened the box you can’t return it and are locked into the deal.
“Now debt firm Guardian Recovery, of Preston, is chasing us for £5,775. We have no idea how this figure was arrived at.”
My advice is don’t pay a penny, they’re never likely to sue and here’s why.
I got in touch with RCI and asked if it had any business arrangement with Intelligent Software Solutions.
“We have nothing to do with them at any possible level,” came the reply.
“They are trying to trade on our legitimate name.”
Intelligent Software Solutions has ignored my questions.
