              • Bank of America

                Good Day.

This is to acknowledge receipt of your mail and also confirm to you that the sum of $15,800,000 USD arrived this bank from Federal Government of Benin Republic in your name. This funds shall be paid to you via online banking transfer where by this bank of America shall open online account for you and deposit the funds into your online account.

The email continues with descriptions of how you will get the cash, instructions for the transfer etc.

Then comes the request for your information and the scammer wants the following:-
                - full name
                - home address
                - mobile phone number
                - passport or drivers licence number and details
                - marital status
                - date of birth
                - current occupation
                - post code
                - fax number

The only strange things on that list of information that phishing targets is a fax number. Does anyone still have a fax number???

                        Dear cosumer,

we inform you that out automated system has detected an unpaid sum (invoice n 2257368924109) on your 1&1 invoices for this year and to solve your situation we propose you to devote 2 minutes of your time and go on our page to settle your bill.

Then there's a link which appears to go to Verizon but is a fake link.

Ambergris is of course a product made from whales.
It is fortunate that most scammers produce only such unconvincing rubbish in their attempts to steal from people.

                          • Messages such as a warning of a new sign-in from untrusted location whenever you happen to use another PC or be on a different IP address are now common.

But the scammers know this and try their best to make us believe their fake messages are genuine.

Title "New sign-in from untrusted location"

                            "Account blocked"

"We have blocked your account due to a suspicious login. If this was you then click the link to tell us".

"If this wasn't you then click the link and change your password".

"It is essential you do this."

The message doesn't specify what account it is talking about and doesn't have a company name so is obviously fake.

and the email message is from a ridiculous address rad1309278973222.pco83ughptrywzz.4r578036bvrwy3778 899pogahpytevzmpqwoeuieyd.phy.lollipop.jp
