Wriggle room - perhaps. On the other hand, running the scene in my mind produces an image in which the mother takes the plate from the server.

The restaurant would want to avoid the possibility of food poisoning and would therefore make sure the food is hot. If the mother feeds the baby with something that is too hot, then I would submit that that is her responsibility, not theirs.

Baby food can be eaten cold I believe, so it would not need to be piping hot to avoid food poisoning. Also, the mother did not feed the baby the food, the food was pulled off the table by the baby as it had been placed there - the original post doesn't say by whom.

I understand you may be playing Devil's Advocate. :beagle:

I think this is wrong (babies should not be served food that is dangerous - it's not the parents' fault).

I can't find it but there was a very recent incident in the press where a baby was served a double whiskey by mistake - does anyone remember/know the outcome?

As far as I can see the restaurant (Frankie and Benny's) apologised for the cock up and gave the family 50% off their bill.

I've looked through twice and can't see the restaurant named, or the fact the family received 50% off their bill. I may have missed it of course.

Is this information in there, or has it been pm'd to Site Admin?

To my mind there is still a decision to be made as to whether it is an unfortunate accident or negligence. That's not something which can be resolved definitively on LB. :beagle:

Obtaining any CCTV footage there may be will be helpful on this.
