Re: Warranty on used cars question please?

I have had a look Di and yes he was charged for a 3 months warranty, however, I am not sure when the new inclusive warranty started being included on used car sales. It may be that in 2010 when hubby bought the car it wasn't yet in effect and they have only recently changed.

This is the first thing you need to check. What warranty did they say came with the car when purchased? Usually after it has expired they approach you to extend it, was that after the 3 months, 1 year, 2 years? That should give you some idea what came with the car.

Do you have any additional warranty paperwork, for example giving start/end dates, terms & conditions, what's covered/what's not?

If you find that it was already covered then yes, you have a good reason to be asking for the £80 odd back.
Any opinions I give are my own. Any advice I give is without liability. If you are unsure, please seek qualified legal advice.

Re: Warranty on used cars question please?

Interesting, thank you Tools, this is much appreciated, I will take a look now later or tomorrow for other paperwork.

Going back to a time previous years to that, we purchased a used car and had automatic warranty for approx 6 months, that was about 2004/05, but that was elsewhere.

Will see what I can find, thanks for that and the info :tinysmile_twink_t2:

That would suggest to me that you would need to check the original advertisement or basis of the sale back in 2010, that may prove a little more difficult. I would begin by querying with the dealer if all their used cars came with a 3 month warranty back then and if there would have been any exemptions. I think you may be hard pushed to pursue this one after almost 4 years but if you are intent on trying I will advise as best I can on the info they come back with. You have to weigh up is the £95(inc VAT) worth the effort and time to you.

Re: Warranty on used cars question please?

The info i just posted, is basically this below:

            PROVISIONS SPECIFIC TO USED VEHICLES:
Unless otherwise specified, used vehicles come with a warranty of 3 months commencing on the date of delivery.........

etc......(bottom left hand side of the document posted above post).

Am baffled and I found another bit of info on the order form :
            DEAL OPTIONS
            3 months warranty!

Now why should this be an option of the T&C's states 3 months warranty comes in with used cars unless otherwise specified (found nothing to state otherwise).

The info I posted of the T@C's was on the other side of the first doc i posted up, but my bro in law works for them in that same dealers, but he is a mechanic and been there for many many years, so I shall have a word with him this week.:tinysmile_twink_t2:

I will have to think on this one, may send a simple email as well, and see what they come back with and go from there, (will keep the email short and sweet) as I do not want to sound too pushy lol.

                  Dear Mr & Mrs

Thank you for your email below, received by the Executive Office, regarding the used vehicle warranty on your Focus, **** ***

Your correspondence has been escalated to **** *********, Dealer Principal at ******* Ford, as the correct area of responsibility. We are confident that the dealership will address your concerns appropriately and are aware that *** ********, Sales Executive, will shortly contact you to discuss your concerns further. Yours sincerely

                  Ford of Britain
                  Telephone: 0

                  .................................................. .......................................
They also attached the Order Form from when the car was ordered and purchased and details of the T&C's, what I already posted up on here really and if this is the case then those T&C's should have applied for the used car we purchased.

I have deleted the names they mentioned for security/confidential purposes.

My hubby is working afternoons now, and not sure if they will deal directly with me to be honest, as it was hubby that signed the paperwork.

Think I got the drift on this now lol.

                    Hi Mr & Mrs

I have spoken to ******* ******* at Ford Motor Co re the warranty cost shown on your invoice.
When we sell someone a used car we include a 3mth warranty with the vehicle. However when we
Raise the invoice we have to show the cost of warranty on the invoice for accounting procedures.
So for example if you pay £8000 for a car including 3mths warranty and say 6mths tax your invoice will say
                    Basic price £7823
                    6mths tax £77.00
                    3mth war £100.00
                    Total price £8000.00.

I hope this will clear up any confusion we may have caused you, if you want to speak to me further regarding this please ring me
                    On my direct line 01

                    Regards

Re: Warranty on used cars question please?

I have found the order form and it does look like the original cost of the car was £7965.96, so taking into account what was explained above, then it does look like 3 months warranty was not actually charged to hubby.

This this has explained it what he said lol.

Thank you for you help in this anyway Tools, I just thought i was missing something and that hubby wasnt being careful what he was doing, but it just looks like its the way its done. :tinysmile_twink_t2:

No Problem Di, was a useful exercise and actually quite a speedy response from Ford's, shows their customer service is on par. Nice to see for a change.
