  • VT refused by SMF

I have contacted SMF to start the VT process and signed their VT form. I have sent photographs of the car and they have replied saying they are refusing the VT due to a dent in the passenger door which is more than wear and tear. They want me to get this repaired first before they will accept VT. Can they do this? I thought they would just bill me after the car is collected for any repairs/outstanding costs and I could pay via a payment plan. I can’t afford to repair the car and I can’t afford to keep the car either. They want me to call them to discuss ‘other exit options’ which clearly means a surrender which will cost me thousands

    Hi MRSSEKKA

    Welcome to LB

I'm not sure that is correct, go through their Terms and Conditions, should be on their website, if you haven't got a copy.

Below is a VT letter and excellent Guide.

Their T’s and C’s say the vehicle must be free of damage however further down it then says any repairs will be undertaken and compared to the CAP table and then billed afterwards. I sent them photos of the car and they’ve just outright refused to continue with VT. Surely this isn’t legal no matter what their T’s and C’s say?

Write to them again, mark the letter as 'Formal Letter of Complaint', Thank them for their email of XX/XX/XXXX.

Explain that the request / information provided in their email of XX/XX/XXXX is misleading. The Terms and Conditions explicitly state 'any repairs will be undertaken and compared to the CAP table and then billed afterwards'. Explain that if they continue to reject you VT request then you will have no option, but to lodge a complaint with Trading Standards.

I look forward to hearing from you.
