  • Almost time to VT my car with Jaguar UK

    Hello everyone,

My car comes to the end of it's PCP on June 17th, and I am currently looking into VT. My main concern is that the vehicle is over it's estimated mileage, and also needs the alloy wheels refurbishing and some bodywork touching up (light scuffs and a couple of scratches).

I'm assuming if I hand the car back in it's current condition, the finance company will look to charge me for the wheels and paintwork and anything else they can find, but will the charges be more expensive than if I had the car done myself before return? For example, to get the wheels done it will cost me £500, but I wonder how much the finance company would look to charge me.

Has anyone got any experience of handing a vehicle back with work that needed doing, or is it always advisable to hand the car back in the best condition possible?

    Thank you
    Paul

If the PCP is naturally coming to a conclusion I'm not sure why you want to VT. At the end of a PCP the options are.

    1. Pay the Balloon payment and own the vehicle
    2. Hand the car back
    3. Use any equity in the vehicle as a deposit to take out a new PCP on a new vehicle.

I don't see any benefit to you entering into a VT rather than just handing the car back.

Have you asked Jaguar ( or have they provided a list) of charges for repairs? I seem to remember with Audi, for example ,the cost of refurbishing a scuffed alloy was £60 per wheel . So even if all four needed doing that would be a lot cheaper than the £500 you have been quoted by a third party.

The fact that the OP has gone over the agreed mileage could be a good reason to VT and avoid the requirement to pay that depending on how much that amounts to.
