You beat me to it Amethyst !
That sign (on the 2012 view) appears to say that improperly displaying a ticket (face down) or not displaying a permit will be subject to a charge. Hopefully the sign has ot changed and therefore you have not breached the condition and therefore there should be no charge. Picture of that sign is imperative. It is also not obvious when entering the road and hence cannot possibly create any contract.

Ok so that is all my photos! Thanks for all advice.... How should I word my defense??
Interestingly (or not) while out taking photos I spoke to another resident who also was told nothing by the letting agents about terms of parking and got a ticket... The agent paid the ticket for them.... Think it must've happened a lot hence their deciding to 'not get involved' with parking disputes any more. Heaven forbid they should just decide to do their jobs properly instead!
