  • Dvla failure to insure fine

Hi all I'm really in need of some firm advice regarding a failure to insure fine.
i sold my car to a main Hyundai dealer a as a px for my new car about 6 months ago, last week I received a fine for £50 for failure to insure the car that I handed over to the dealer as px, I posted off the v5 slip to the dvla on the Monday (2 days after) and as far as I was concerned that was the end of the matter.
am I liable for the car that I no longer own and is the fine even legal, any help would be really help as I feel this fine is something the current owner would be paying

Do you have proof of posting?
A witness to you posting it?
    Exact date of posting?

I sadly don't have proof of posting, but the date is noted.

I would write back and tell them that you have fulfilled your obligations by sending the V5 sli[ back to them, also give them details of the new owner and leave it at that, you could also drop in s.7 of the interpretations act. They tend to send out standard template letters which half of what they say doesn't even apply.
