Re: DVLA reveal benefit details on line

The check road tax site is now working again and looks like they've removed the DISABLED tax class from appearing. It's now similar to the previous site where a PLG class will display the 6 or 12 month rate (also monthly DD rate) and a disabled tax class shows up as 12 month rate £0.00. Pointless really as it's obvious to anyone searching that a tax rate showing £0.00 is most likely disabled tax class.

I disagree, any vehicle in band A would qualify

Cars that emit up to 100gCO2/km fall into band A for vehicle excise duty or road tax. Both the first year and standard annual rate for band A vehicles is zero rated meaning no road tax is payable. Road tax band A cars may be alternatively fuelled vehicles with a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric drivetrain but there are also many different efficient petrol and diesel models available which fit into the band A tax band. Car tax Band A cars typically have low running costs as not only do they attract no road tax but also are more efficient to run and hence have lower fuel costs.

Re: DVLA reveal benefit details on line

Strangely we have just got a car which has a disabled tax disc on it, not got the log book back yet ( four weeks and counting) DVLA site says it is taxed until next year.
I tried to establish how much it will be to tax it as we are not disabled but site says it is a 1.4i nothing on the car to say that or on the green slip.
I got the form from the post office yesterday and she said it may take over six weeks to get the log book.
She looked it up and the tax is a lot more than we were first told (by the same post office)
On hold for now until we can some sense out of the DVLA (site was not accessible again when I tried earlier)
        Never give up, Never surrender.

Similarly "historic vehicles" are tax exempt

You must re-tax the vehicle & you don't need the V5 to do it. If you don't and are stopped by the police (for any reason) the DVLA WILL prosecute you (even though its their fault) Remember that since the 1st of this month when a vehicle is sold the tax has to be renewed by the new owner

Yes I do realise that but have
tried but DVLA site was still having problems .
Mr DT wanted to know if we opted for monthly DD and we sold it on, (which is what he wanted to do but not without the log book!)
Could you just stop the DD after telling DVLA of course!

Re: DVLA reveal benefit details on line

You inform the DVLA immediately when you sell the vehicle ( best time to sell is at the end of a complete month ) you are automatically refunded ( if you have paid for 6/12 months in advance ) or simply cancel the DD when you sell.

The new owner is automatically liable to tax the vehicle on date of purchase if they wish to use it - or declare it SORN

You MUST inform the DVLA immediately whenever you sell a vehicle or stop using it SORN. Otherwise you will be liable for the VED and any fines (parking, speeding etc)

Re: DVLA reveal benefit details on line

According to the DVLA as soon as you notify them of the transfer/sale the drawing on the DD will stop (allegedly) In the meantime I strongly suggest you make an application via the PO for a new log book (V5)

Already got the form and ready to post, along with the green slip!
Read else where that the post office can set up the direct debit so could do that tomorrow!
We are however still waiting for a refund for one we sold last month, had to ring them last week and had to send them confirmation of selling that car but they admitted to having " lost" the returned document and it was only when we returned that tax disc and form they realised it, you could not make it up!
That was sold in the 31st August wonder if and whn we get the refund they will give us the five months remaining!

As far as I'm aware you cannot start using the DD system until 1st November, speak with your Post Office

Yes Tools was right, after a VERY frustrating morning its been a bit of a catch 22 situation, cannot tax on line as its still classed as disabled, not got the log book cannot opt for DD until November!
Phoned DVLA and downloaded SORN form and posted with form to get new book and green slip.
Still had varied cost of re tax three from DVLA and one from Post Office

I would strongly advise people NOT to give their bank details to the DVLA. They bugger up most things & its only a matter of time before some poor so & so suffers a loss of funds because the DVLA have made one of their customary 'mistakes'

PM me your Registration number and I will see if I can get the correct VED rate for you.

I also had to tax my car today, went online, paid the 6 months by debit card, no fuss no hassle. I would have preferred to do it in instalments to spread the cost as it is £126.50 for 6 months!! But hey ho :tinysmile_cry_t: easy come easy go.
