A city council are in the process of converting its pay & display car park to one where you take a ticket on entry and pay for whatever time you have stayed on exit. However, apart from increasing the general charge they plan to round up the charge to the nearest hour upwards.

If therefore you park for one hour and one minute you will be charged for two hours. This is like purchasing just over one KG of meat from the butchers and him / her charging for two KG. That would be fraud but what about the council's parking charge? In other places these systems round up (or up or down) to the nearest 5p or 10p so there is no problem in making the system fair.

Whoever said councils and parking charges were fair?
So they charge so much for the first hour or part thereof, and so much extra for the next hour or part thereof.
I don't see that as particularly unfair, extortionate perhaps depending on the charges, but not unfair.
At least it avoids the blanket penalty charge of squillions.

And if you know that you will be charged for the full hour even if you're only there a couple of minutes extra it gives you a chance to do more shopping :santa_wink:

Most charges for pay and Display are by the hour or multiple off better to pay on exit for 1 hour and 2 minutes than have a ticket 2 minutes under the time in a car park and a fine from the council of 25 quid plus I do not see any problem with it

Pah - women!

I think in the days of councils being strapped for money, parking and parking fines are a major source of income for them.

To tell the truth ... I hate shopping, but with an almost 1yr old I need all the time (and cash) I can get :lol:
