  • Landlord changes unfurnished to furnished one week away from move

    Hi All,

I was due to move into a new property next week after agreeing the move the the letting agent and viewing the property several times.

I paid the holding deposit / agency fee, and went ahead booking broadband, change of address, removal van etc.

With less than two weeks to go before the moving date I was informed by the letting agency that the landlord had decided to change the property from "unfurnished" as it was advertised and agreed, to "furnished".

So I'm a bit screwed, I have to vacate my current property (with my family) and have no where to live or put my furniture.

The letting agent have offered me a round of my holding deposit but this does't help much. I have told them I need everything in writing from this point onwards and that I was considering my options. (They are not sending me anything in writing, just leaving voice messages).

I am desperately trying to find another place in the short notice, but I wondered do I have any consumer rights that could help me in the worst case scenario?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Have they increased the rental price at all and had you signed the tenancy agreement?

      Hi,

No they have not increased the rental price and no only signed the "HOLDING DEPOSIT FORM" & "TENANCY APPLICATION FORM".

I've actually just heard back from the agent offering to remove the furniture, so we might be OK, but I really don't trust the landlord now….

      Will keep you posted.

Argh, unbelievably the landlord now states that the only furniture he can remove are two beds. We are dealing with a live wire… changes his mind daily and we are a week from the moving date. Very concerned. Do you have any advice? Thanks

RUN ! Do you really want this man as your landlord?

Have you looked at alternative lets ? I would get your holding deposit back and speak to where you currently are to see if you can extend whilst you organise something else.
