Can't help with your question, but I tipped a pint of pineapple juice into mine a few months back. After getting the replacement I decided to have a fiddle. I took off the keyboard, carefully wiped the silver film under it which was making the keys all stick, let it dry thoroughly, put the keyboard back. Hey presto - fully functioning again!

    Maybe something for the future?

Am i being fobbed off got to get an estimate for repair to the above laptop thought thats what i paid insurance for
If they did not want to replace it surely they should arrange for it to be repaired any ideas any one not claimed in years may be im too much of a dinosaur when it comes to making claims

The insurance company will be looking to see if it's cheaper for them to repair your laptop or replace it. The other issue is that of availability of spare parts, which can influence an insurer's decision how to deal with a claim. If your laptop is declared "Not repairable", then they might opt to replace it.

Check the policy to see what your insurer will do. Some offer reconditioned items, whilst others offer "New for Old". Oh, and make sure all and any important, personal and sensitive data is removed from the hard disk before handing your laptop over to the insurer, if they decide to replace it. Make this clear to them. They should let you do this.

Let us know how you get on.

                  Thanks Bluebottle
But should they arrange for a repair quote just feel a bit let down I expected them to arrange for it to be collected at least and have a look at it
Got accidental damage cover happy to get it repaired if they can
                  just want a working laptop

Insurance companies can be unbelievably lazy. How do you think they make such huge profits? Ask the insurer if they have a preferred repairer or are they happy for you to get a quote from any reputable computer repairer. Avoid PC World. They have an awful reputation for not doing repairs properly, leaving leads out of boxes, necessitating you have to go back to the store to retrieve them, and nosing through your files. One person they did that to had planted a piece of software on the hard disk that was undetectable, but logged all and any access to files whilst it was with PC World. Apparently, the staff at PC World were left with red faces when the guy activated the software and showed them the log of files they had accessed without authority.

Bloody hell sounds a right nightmare
I have come to the conclusion they are hoping I get it repaired I have a claims excess and have no claims ever so thats going to bump up next years premium for sure
Does make you wonder why we have insurance
