  • Property Halo

Someone I know has had a so-called "Halo" put on themselves and their home by an Anti Social Behaviour Caseworker after reporting some criminal damage to their property. The caseworker encouraged them to report the damage to the Police, which they did. An officer then said they would organise more patrols in the area. Now, this person seems to have been branded a troublemaker - although they are the victim - and has certain neighbours watching their every move in order to report back to the authorities about them. They have also heard that this halo could affect their home insurance and are horrified that it has been done to them. How can they get it removed and get back to a normal life?

Does this have any connection with your multiple threads over the last 5 years about your own neighbourhood problems?

Is the "someone you know" actually you? It would be helpful for anyone advising to know whether this is a continuation of the previous harrassment you have reported or something entirely new.

I have never heard of the expression "Property Halo" in this context before and have no idea what it is. A google search brought up nothing and a site search of other consumer advice sites did not find any posts referring to it.

Do you have a link to a source that explains what it means?

Who does the Anti Social Behaviour Caseworker work for? The local council?

The Caseworker works for the county council and said the halo was like a "watch" put on the property. The Caseworker works alongside the Police's Neighbourhood Team. I am presuming that this is like the sort of thing that is put on a property that perhaps they suspect is being used for illegal purposes? There is nothing of that sort going on at this property.

You didn't answer my first question. Is this about you and your house?

Have you asked your case worker about your presumption?

Yes, sorry Pallasathena, it is continuing. You suggested that I moved in a previous post, and that has been considered, but I have been able to have further communication with neighbours today and I believe a solution is in sight.

No, Atticus I have not asked the case worker about my presumption. In my experience, liaising with such a caseworker who liaises with the Police who liaises with the council has been a bit like being on a merry go round. I would not recommend it.

Thanks to everyone for their replies and advice.
