  • Am I going to get myself into trouble?

This might be an unusual request for guidance...

I am in dispute with a company relating to getting a refund for repair work charged for but not completed. There are a large number of forums that are critical of this company including Trust Pilot etc.

Anyway, I carried out a company search on this dodgy organisation and of course as part of that I now have the director/owner (100% shareholder) full name and home address. I have written to the dodgy company concerned and suggested that unless they give me a refund (a relatively small sum in the scale of things, £135.00), that I will publish the directors full name and home address on all of the numerous forums. They in turn have threatened me with their lawyers for if I publish "confidential" information.

    So my question is this...

If this information is already in the public domain and readily accessible by the public, will I get in deep trouble for going ahead with my threat to publish unless they give me a refund? I could do without being on the wrong end of lawsuit.

    Help please...

Name and address is probably not a problem if this data came from Companies House. However blackmailing the director is a no no.

Yip, completely with Ostell there, the name and address is publicly accessible info, and you could link to the relevant docs on companies house beta, BUT threatening to make public a persons home address with malicious intent is a whole different ball game and it does seem like blackmail, so I would withdraw that threat, apologise and stay off the forums for a bit xx

Have you tried the normal channels to obtain a refund ? Do you want to have a look at legitimately sorting out the issue with the company ?
How did you originally pay for the repair work ? Do you have relevant eveidences of what the company were meant to do and what they did/didn't do ? Have you considered court action against the company etc ?
