  • Data Protection Query

    Situation:
Member of a private sailing club was seriously injured in a car crash. Group of members, all known to him, signed a "get Well Soon" card to send to him.

Club secretary was asked for his address so that the card could be delivered. Secretary refused to give out details stating that the DPA prevented her from doing this.

Is this a valid reason, given that it is a members only club?

The address in question was about 400 yards away but didn't know the exact address. Regular updates received from his wife about the injured members current medical condition.

Secretary is resigning next month! (Thank Goodness) Full of her own importance and always right. One committee member resigned 'cause the minutes were written her way rather than a record of the meeting.

Unfortunately, I think she is probably technically correct.

The easy way of dealing with it would have been for her to offer to send the card on - but we have all come across officious twits like she sounds.

Get Secretary to post / deliver it.

Eventually someone remembered the name of the house and a member took it up to the house.

"but we have all come across officious twits like she sounds." and she's got a husband that's the same. Rumour central has it that other organisations have actually asked them to leave.

Would you like your address given out without your permission first
