  • Owning property found in car

    Hi Guys

So a few months ago I bought a spares/ repairs car privately and nursed it back to good health. This week whilst going through the service wallet that came with it some jewellery fell out of the paperwork. I sent it off to be checked and valued but I suddenly thought I’d better make sure they are actually mine to sell.

Given that 3 months have passed and he has not contacted me do i legally own this jewellery? Or am I obliged to track down the guy who sold me the car and find out if it’s his and he lost it?

I’m probably thinking the best course of action is to hand it in to police and explain and if it goes unclaimed I think I can claim it as mine after 28 days.

so the question is as 3 months has passed is jewellery now my property or not? I can’t find anything anywhere online!

This is the correct course of action if you don't have contact details for the person.
