Is there anything preventing a non-trained or qualified Solicitor representing someone in their divorce?

Yes. The Solicitors Act and other laws regulate the provision of legal services.

You may take advice from whoever you want, but representation in court processes is a regulated activity which may not be undertaken by unqualified persons.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

      As always Atticus, thank you.

However, to confirm/clarify, does this preclude someone from representing someone during the course of discussions/negotiations with the other parties appointed Solicitor? I understand that Court appearances would have to be a qualified Solicitor/Barrister, but what about in negotiations pre Court - so for the Financial Settlement etc? Do 'Court Processes' extend to that also?

No. As stated above, it is because certain activities are restricted by law to solicitors and barristers.
