Yes. The Solicitors Act and other laws regulate the provision of legal services.
You may take advice from whoever you want, but representation in court processes is a regulated activity which may not be undertaken by unqualified persons.Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

However, to confirm/clarify, does this preclude someone from representing someone during the course of discussions/negotiations with the other parties appointed Solicitor? I understand that Court appearances would have to be a qualified Solicitor/Barrister, but what about in negotiations pre Court - so for the Financial Settlement etc? Do 'Court Processes' extend to that also?
