  • Not happy at work!

Hope you don't mind but could do with some advice. (Please remove if not).
I have worked at my current place of work for about 6 years. We have just had a new manager recently and things have changed. About 8 weeks ago we had a letter inviting us for an interview that may lead to a disciplinary, for misconduct.
Six weeks after the interview and no answer I contacted HR as my manager was on holiday. "I have been on holiday after emergency surgery since July. Will hopefully have this sorted out by the end of the week." It has been nearly two weeks since and I have had nothing. I seems to me that they are trying to brush it under the carpet.
I was planning to resign before I had the "letter", as I am hoping to get a job driving, but it stopped me as I was hoping for a reference.
Most of concerns can be proven to be false but others are their word against ours.
I just want to leave but I don't want to cause any problems in the future.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

    Re: Not happy at work!

    Hi there ...

I have no specific knowledge of employment law but some experience of these so called disciplinary hearings. Reading between the lines, it seems that the new manager is a new broom trying to sweep clean, almost aggressively so. The fact that this has apparently not moved onto to anything more serious suggests indeed that the company HR may be doing a U turn on the issue. I can tell you from experience that some managers feel that raising a disciplinary hearing improves efficiency ( and puts a feather in their cap )whereas it has done nothing but shatter staff moral. You talk about 'us' being invited to the interview, does that means a group of people served with the same misconduct offence? Only you will know if there has been any evidence of misconduct worth listening to. Was there any element of dishonesty? Personally, and the fact that this was only penned as 'may lead to' scenario, I would continue working with new confidence and vigour, and put this behind you unless you hear anything to the contrary. I had a similar situation working for local government that could have sent me throwing myself under a bus but I steeled myself and went on to have a further successful 19 years in the job. In such situations, strength of character is all important but also to be admired., and so important for you if you plan on moving on soon. Just my thoughts of course but I wish you every success.
