• Need help /employment laws/privacy

Hello, so I have a situation at work. I found out by a new employee that my manager told coworkers that I hd gone to the e.r the previous week. My fellow cowoker also informed me that they were tell everyone including her to not talk to me, and as of right now no one speaks to me and avoids me as if I had a disease. The thing that concerns me is the fact that I told no one I had gone to the dr, let alone the e.r. I gave my dr note to only my manager , so I'm sure she called and found out that way. Is there anything I can maybe do? It makes me upset that such information was blurted out to everyone when I wanted no one to know.

    Hi, welcome to the forum

    Sorry, what's the e.r ? Emergency Room ? ( Accident & Emergency ? )

The Doctors wouldn't have disclosed you had gone anywhere or what you had gone for to any third party calling them. Did your Doctors note disclose anything about what you were visiting the Doctor's for ?

      Hi Hello72

I'm sorry to read about your situation at work. Please can you confirm you are in the UK? Your use of the term 'E.R.' made me think you might not be.

Are you able to speak with your manager, or someone senior, about the situation? If not, do you have an HR department, or someone responsible for HR, with whom you could speak?

          Thanks for confirming that, Hello72

Unfortunately I don't know anything about US employment law to be able to advise you here; however, there may be someone on the forum with knowledge of this who will come along shortly. In the meantime, are there any US-based forums you could use?

It's up to you but I wouldn't delete your post in case someone on here does know something about US employment law and can advise you.

Actually no, unfortunately our district leader is just as bad as the manager. And I have contacted out hr department. no one has responded to me, and I see an overwhelming amount of comment on our company's main site of other employees having issues even getting through to speak to an hr agent.

Alright, I'll go ahead and leave it up then, thank you

Good to know employers are just as bad on the other side of the atlantic tho.

The doctors should not have given out any information about your health issues at all - I'm pretty sure that's the same in the US as here. Is the rumour mongering accurate or just guesswork by your manager ? ( if she had got information from the Doctors I wondered if you could have a complaint against the doctors surgery as well as a grievance against your manager )

I will have to call my dr to see if she released that information to my manager but there is no way for her to have known that because my Drs note was from one hospital and then I was transferred to another hospital's emergency room, unless again she called. But I do believe that co worker that told me because that manager is always telling everyone, everyone's business.
