  • Fact Finding Meeting

    Hello all,

once again I am in the firing line and have been invited to attend a fact finding meeting tomorrow afternoon with my employer to discuss the "Usage of customers WiFi in May 2015"

I work with a Security Company and have been working on this "Customers" site every few weeks to a few months and when I wasn't working their I was doing my own work which was Mobile Response/Supervisor.

the entire month of may according to my rota I was not scheduled to work and did not work on that site. I was in fact off work on Paternity leave and also had taken a weeks holiday with my leave and returned to work in June.

I was contacted a few weeks ago by the operations admin (someone who I feel has bullied me these past few years) on my Whatsapp messenger, he was asking things like "Was there WiFi on the Customers site" "Who gave you the password" and "Did everyone have it" I answered all questions honestly and said "yes their was WiFi" "Joe Bloggs gave me the password" and "yes everyone had it". i asked what it was about but he read the message and when offline, i realised he never asked if it worked... the password never worked for me and I was not the type of person to hand out customer information. but on Saturday I received a letter from the company asking me to attend a Fact finding meeting on the 6th of October (My birthday of all days) and I am getting a bit peeved off as this seems to becoming a witch-hunt,

I am already on a first and final warning which does not expire until the 24th October this year, and if this incident happened in May why is it only being acted on now.

I have and always have kept Rotas, Memos, Screenshots of Texts, emails etc... just basically anything the company have said and sent to me.

can anyone please offer me some advice as to what I can do?

Many many thanks for taking the time to read this I really appreciate it.

A fact finding is tecnically not a disciplinary. It is a process to decidide if there is enough evidence to elevate to a formal disciplinary conduct meeting. It is nothing to worry about and part of a companies normal disciplinary procedure.

    I have to ask

Is it your own company policy that you can or CANNOT use the sites own communications systems for personal use as a contractor?

That is irrespective if you were given the password or not

It is the Policy but as i never had the correct password i was unable to use any communication device, but i had to keep my phone on me at all times and did use it as my wife was heavily pregnant at the time.

So you never logged onto the clients wifi or communications network even though an employee gave you the password??

        Is that correct??

You had your own personal smart pnone but internet or voice calls were through your own mobile phone network provider??

        Is that correct??

What worries me is that you stated the password did not work, that shows you must have tried it contrary to your employers code of conduct if applicable

I tried but the password was incorrect.

At any time i needed to access the internet or use any form of communication i did so on my own mobile (as i have unlimited internet)

I did try but never gained access, and without gaining access i was never able to use the costumers Data/devices

            Re: Fact Finding Meeting

The fact you tried to access contrary to your own companies disciplinary procedure will be your down fall

            Take my advice

If they ask were you given the password say yes

If they ask did you try and access the netwok say

I do not recall or not to my knowledge as i would have no reason having my own smart phone with inclusive data and minutes

The fact an individual tried to access the network will be recorded, but not identify the device used to try and access that network

Thank you for the Advice judgemental24 i shall keep you informed if anything comes of it =)

but one more question, Should they not be more concerned of were the password came from, the person who gave me the password claimed it came from the Foreman of the site.

The reason why i said agree to the question if you were given the password because they might already have that answer. If you said no then your credibility would be shot.

They are only interested if you tried to access a clients communications system when your own company policy prohibits it.

                That is all
