    OK thanks John,

I guess there is no time frame for this investigation?

Stick with your gut instinct and walk away.

There will be other investment opportunities and franchises if you want to go down that route, or you could strike out on your own.

Use the last 8 weeks as valuable experience and go through this investigation/disciplinary procedure with them, if nothing else it will show you that side of how the business works, and you already know not to treat your own future staff in the same manner.

That's the trouble with being self employed.

To be honest I have been thinking I could strike out on my own. They have been slack in not making me sign any confidentiality agreement which most franchises do when you first walk through the door. I have built up a portfolio of all there stores and what money they turnover.Maybe I should stick with my gut instinct. Thanks Amethyst.

Exactly, don't feel tied into investing in this particular franchise because you feel you'd have wasted your 8 weeks 'training' - its been a good learning experience and will stand you in good stead whatever you go on to do. Continue with it through this 'complaint' and treat it as experience - don't get stressed over it just view it as another learning opportunity.

Re: help needed concerning formal complaint against myself.

Ok I have received details of this alleged complaint.

Firstly, this a load of rubbish.

Apparently I stated that I was looking for the stapler and said 'its probably up that gay guys arse'.

The company then replied to the complainant asking him to elaborate etc and make it official but this guy has not pushed it any further and backtracked.

Now this is a total load of rubbish.

They have invited me back to train at another store.

                    I presume I can't do anything about this defamation/slander?

                    Thanks in advance.

                      Hi,
Unfortunately not much you can do mate.
A storm in a teacup me thinks.
The decision whether to train at another store, is yours.......
                      Good luck..

So let me get this right.

A guy gives a written a statement saying a load of rubbish about homosexual comments that i've made and they can just get away with it?

                        Surely not.

This has put me in a position where I think my reputation is tarnished and I can no longer go on with this venture.

                          Libel And Slander

                          The Distinction In Defamation

Defamation is the expression of an untrue insinuation against a person’s reputation. In the European Convention on Human Rights under Article 10(2), defamation is one of the valid reasons for limiting a person’s freedom of expression. Defamation is split into two legal bases that a person can sue for: slander and libel. Slander is defamation of a person through a transient form of communication, generally speech. Libel is defamation of a person through a permanent form of communication, mostly the written word. However, defamation is not limited to linguistic forms; visual forms such as photographs, paintings, illustrations, status and bodily gestures can also be regarded as defamatory.
The claimant must prove in a case of slander that the effect of the defamation has actually been damaging to them. There is no such requirement in a case of libel.
However, there are several instances of slander where the damage is assumed and it need not be proven – this is called slander 'actionable per se'. These include: an accusation of committing an imprisonable crime; of having a contagious disease; or of being incapable in their office, profession or business.

You could possibly take a case to court, but I don't think you would get Legal Aid (so it might work out costly). It might be worth you talking to someone at the National Pro Bono Centre:http://www.nationalprobonocentre.org.uk
