  • Unfair dismissal?

    Hi

I am posting on behalf of my mother-in-law as she had found herself in line for being sacked. She works as an office manager in a Lettings company in scotland and has been acused of forging her boss' signature on a lease and is currently suspended. She had discussed this lease with a colleague, both of whom thought it did not look right, before going on holiday for two weeks. On returning to work on monday, she was called into her boss' office and shown the lease before being told she was suspended pending an investigation. She was told she was not allowed any contact with her colleagues and would be contacted by letter. She has now received said letter and has to go in to the office tomorrow.

Since this has happened, my mother in law has been explaing the work situation to my wife and I. In march the boss took on a new employee in the lettings department to which my mother in law asked if she had been replaced as Office manager as there was no need for anyone else to be broght on board. She was assured that she had not been and that the new employee would just work alonside her. Two weeks later she was told she was no longer office manager and had been replaced by the new employee. Since then she has felt like she was being forced out but did not want to leave.

Two of her colleagues have since called her (not sure where that leaves her but she didn't know who was calling so answered) and told her this is not the first time the boss has done this, just before she started he did exactly the same to a former member of staff. They felt bad for her as she is the nicest person in the world and they thought she did not desrve this to be happening as she works so hard for the company and wanted her to know they weren't happy with how she was being treated.

The issue really is that she is having her reputation brought into disrepute by being accused of something she clearly did not do, just so the boss can sack her to save money. There has never been any other issue brought up with the way she works, time keeping or any warnings etc. She has worked for the company for 18 months and is therefore outhwith the two year qualifying period for tribunal, is there anything we can do??? Surely the boss can't just make up accusations, band them around and fire people whenever he wants??

    Re: Unfair dismissal?

You haven't outright said, so I must ask, did your mother-in-law forge the bosses signature on the lease agreement ?

Haha, fair question. No she did not forge the signature, there would be absolutely no reason for her to.
