  • Resigning with outstanding bonus

I have recently been awarded a bonus in my current job for work carried out over the past year. I have also been on the lookout for a new position and have just been offered a great job. The complication is I will only receive the bonus in my July pay packet, which means if I were to resign now I would stand to lose the bonus depending on how my current employer react.

I have a good relationship with my boss but that doesn't count for much when it comes to £'s...is there an legal reason why they cannot deny me the bonus or as bonuses are "discretionary", can they retract it even though I have it in writing?

    Thanks

    Re: Resigning with outstanding bonus

the awards of bonus payments etc will be subject to the terms in your contract of employment

    for instance

it may say you have to be employed at xyz date to receive the bonus

      Re: Resigning with outstanding bonus

Thanks for the swift response, however I am a little confused, obviously my contract was signed a few years ago and the bonus was awarded this month?

So my contract wouldn't include this bonus or any dates?

The letter I received also isn't detailed enough to include any dates, it just says it will be included in my next salary..
