  • Employer forcing me to talk to agressor

Hi, looking for advice, hopefully someone can help.

The background is a bit long-winded I'm afraid....

I caught a male colleague staring at my behind at work, so I confronted him and asked him not to do it again as it made me feel uncomfortable. In return I was showered with a torrent of aggressive, and abusive behaviour which made me feel degraded. Another member of staff had to pull him away from me before something worse could happen.

At the time, there was no senior management on site, and the male in questions father is debuty site manager. Following the incident, I was assured by the site manager that the situation had been dealt with accordingly, but I have since found out that his son has been heard bragging that he got off scott-free.

Since that day, I have refused to have any contact with this person as it makes me very uncomfortable, angry, stressed and upset.

Now, my boss (his dad) has told me that if i continue to refuse to speak to this guy, then there will be a major issue, and that there will be casualties - implying that I will lose my job as a result.

i have tried to explain the reasons why I dont want to talk to him, but he just dismisses the whole event as based on my own opinions, and point-blank refuses to understand just how strongly I feel. All he does is tell me to stop being immature. I have told him that I dont want to speak to this guy, but i am willing to communicate by email to meet the requirements of my job.

I am the victim here, but it feels like I am being forced out of my job because of the way things have become. Some of my main duties have been taken away from me, and given to this guys son, so they're knowingly forcing me into a situation that they will know will result in problems.

Can someone please give me advice, as I really dont know what to do?

Is there any way to transfer to a different site at the job where he is not in charge?

No, I cant switch to another site, and Im not in a union.

This whole situation is making me feel like the only way to resolve this is to resign from my job.

The above link is a list of solicitors across the UK that offer a first free consultation. It also mentions their specialisms and there are a few employment ones there. Hope it may help!

You could also see if there's a law centre Law Centres near you, then can give free advice.

IMO ACAS are not nearly as good as they used to be. I've read of quite a few cases recently where people have said they were about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

I don't know whether it is just hearsay from people who haven't got the result they wanted, or whether they have genuinely lost their punch. You certainly don't hear their name bandied about as much as you used to.

I found ACAS to be less use than a chocolate teapot when dealing with discrimination. The adviser I dealt with was to be honest extremely stupid and did not understand the dispute and kept urging me to settle without resolving any issues.

If you dont feel your problem is being addressed properly, or the operator is understanding your complaint, ask to speak to a manager. There is plenty of them about.

If you were dissatisfied with the service, did you make a complaint?

The only way they can provide a quality service is if they know when and where they get it wrong.

HAs the site manager got a boss, does the company have any HR people, if so both are avenues you can and should explore. You can add that you're line manager has not dealt with the issue properly.

Hi, personally, what ever way you go, you will have to fight, if this is not in your nature, may I suggest, in between his legs, he has two things called his plumbs, grab them, squeeeze them as hard as you can, and laugh as loud as you can and say" come on then big boy", get your personal items from your desk, and look for a new job, it will save all the bad feelings, and a lot of hassle in the long run, You can work for twats and pratts, or you can look for a real employer, easer said than done, but it cuts a lot of corners
