    By law is it correct that you have to ring in work every day that you are off sick, and are their any employment guidelines anywhere concerning this issue.

    It should be in the individual employers handbook. The Acas guidance is certainly to call each day within an hour of normal start time if short term sick (under 7 days).

      It is generally accepted that unless you have been signed off work for a specific period, i.e. 6 weeks following an operation/injury, that you should keep your employer updated as to your length of absence. For example, if you ring in one day with an illness that may only last a few days then you should let them know each day and an expected return date.

        (at least Tools agrees even if he never listens)
