  • Going long term sick

    Hi there,

my employer gave me the ‘heads up’ that my role was at risk of redundancy 2 and half weeks ago (on my birthday, what a present that was!). Had first letter to begin the consultation period and a formal meeting to discuss it. I have carried working in a ‘business as usual’ manner since but my mental health is all over the place and according to the employee handbook, as ive been there over 5 years, im entitled to up to 4 months long term sick on full pay.

I dont intend to take the full four months but cant determine that right now.

guess my question is what would happen if i was go on long term sick leave during the consultation period?

    thanks in advance

I appreciate that this must be a difficult time for you, I have been in your situation, however if you are looking to spin out the consultation period then that is not how it will happen.

The company will still have the consultation process to follow and you will be invited to attend meetings. If you are unable to physically attend these consultation meetings because your GP deems that you are not well enough, then your employer can supply the relevant information to you in writing and communicate that way with you during the process. Alternatively you can mutually agree to attend the meetings by phone or perhaps on MS Teams or Skype.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.
