Seeing as you are unsure that HR was aware of the POA I would suggest that in addition to what efpom has suggested in post #15 when you refer to the POA you confirm when it was dated and the relevant section withinthe POA that gives you the authority to amend your local (non UK) employment contract.
Just a question under the POA were you required, when you made any changes to your employment contract, to notify anyone that you had done this and provide a copy of the updated document? If so you may just need to cover off why this has not been done.
