  • Can I be Sacked for self isolating?

    Hi
ive been with my employer for 9-10 months....I’ve self isolated as me and my family have been showing signs of Covid 19....I’ve already submitted isolation note and it’s coming to an end soon....a colleague is telling me that he’s heard a rumour if employees that have been with the company less than 2 years are going to be layed off if they take more then 14 days off...can this be done by the employer?*

I would speak with your employer - if you are only being paid SSP now and have been off 14 days then your SSP may be ending. The employer may have the option to lay you off temporarily ( furlough ) and reclaim 80% of your normal pay through the government scheme. With that scheme available it seems daft for any employer to permanently lay off any employees.*

Your colleague may have misunderstood or the employer might just have been having a rant ( understandably this is all a tad stressful and uncertain for business owners ) . Theoretically your employer could dismiss you as you've been there under two years but talk to them ! *What kind of work do you do ?*

Ensuring you and your family are safe, and protecting others ( and the nhs) is most important atm. f you have symptoms yourself you self isolate for 7 days. Anyone in your household self isolate for 14 days. If any of the household then have symptoms everyone else's 14 days start over... and so on until everyone has no symptoms and have completed 14 days from when the last person had symptoms. ( omg I've made that sound ridiculously complicated sorry!)*

If you are clinically vulnerable or anyone in your house is then stay home.

Hi, I’m a sales consultant for a storage company. Is ssp paid up until 28 weeks? I think my company sick is running out though. Once the csp ends would the ssp not kick in for upto 28 weeks?*

Once you had exhausted your CSP then you would move across to SSP, however the time limit of 28 weeks for SSP would start from your first day of sickness. The 28 weeks of SSP does not get added onto whatever time you have been on CSP.

        Hope that makes sense.
