    Can employer not honour contracted hours?

    Dear Beagles

    I am wondering if an employer is able to say you are unable to work due to not completing essential training for the role??* The training was provided on two occasions in the last 2 months, on both occasions my sister in law was off work due to her father being in a hospice and again because he had died. It all sounds incredibly harsh to me, she has a contract for 36 hours but they've said they can't pay her or offer her any shifts (care industry) until she has done the training in 2 weeks time? Any advice would be great fully received*

    Was it made clear in the contract or offer letter that the availability of the hours was dependent on the essential training being carried out?
