  • CIFAS Impact

I am a Manager in a company and unfortunately I did not check if the expenses that I approve for my team are genuine and now the company has raised a CIFAS against me as FRAUD and refuse to remove that even after investigations and
    requests.What
impact would it have on my

    1. Future Employments ( with Banks, Financial Companies etc )
    2. Mortgage Renewals
    3. Future Loans if needed

I have a family and young daughters and quite stressful now. Please help.

Sorry to hear this is causing you a lot of stress.

I am not an expert on CIFAS however I do know they operate various databases, of which I presume your employer has had your details added, based on what they believe was your fraudulent activity. My understanding is that before an organisation is able to place a warning about someone on CIFAS’s database, it must be in a position to make a formal complaint to the police or other relevant law enforcement agency. Do you know if your employer did this?

I am not sure what sector you work in but it is likely that potential employers in some sectors and financial services in particular, will run checks on this database to see if applicants have a record, before deciding whether or not to offer them a job. So, there could be some impact depending on whether any new employer decides to search this database.
In regard to the future mortgages/loans then again the same applies, if the lender checks the database then it may have an adverse effect on their decision.

I believe that the “marker” could remain for a period of up to six years.

If you want to know what data they hold about you then you could raise a Subject Access Request. It may be worth doing this just to at least find out what they hold and how long the "marker" may be there. At least then you would know what you are dealing with.

    Hope that helps/
