  • fit note issues

As you may or may not know, I am a broken Callie at the moment.

I have a severe (to the point of tears of pain) ankle injury and am at present off sick, I need crutches to walk and can't do more than about 4 steps unaided.

My sick note runs out Monday and there is no way on God's green earth that I am going to be able to go back, I am actually panicking about being on crutches on holiday

I have called all 3 offices of our GP and all I am getting is "28/29 August be alright love?" No, I'm due back to work Monday!

I have text my manager and said "Look this is the situation" and she wants a fit note on Monday, but I can't get a doctor's appointment unless I call in at 8am on Monday morning which is an hour after I am due to start work!

What do I do? If I go in I will be on my own with possible deep room cleans and guests to lift etc.. I can just about lift myself!

In tears here, whatever happened to sit and wait????
PLEASE NOTE: I work irregular hours including nights and sleep in shifts. If I have not responded in 48 hours, please ask an admin to Messenger me!

Phone your doctor back, and ask for a call back. Explain your circumstances and ask for backdated fit note if you can’t get an appointment before it runs out. That will cover you.

"only a doctor can give you a sick note, you need to call for an appointment at 8am on the day!"

I am going round in circles, even 111 couldn't help! They suggested calling at 8am for an appointment and telling them I called, I very strongly doubt the receptionist cares!

All I can think of is telling my boss to give me my week in IOM holiday now and hoping to be upright in a week. I honestly don't know what to do

Contact out of hours gp for your pain? They can issue you a fit note if you explain your circumstances and tell them you are in pain.

As your manager wants a fit note on Monday you go to the doctors after 8 am and then provide the fit note afterwards, you have still adhered to what you have been asked. It is impractical of them to expect you to be able to provide it before you start work when the doctors doesn't open until an hour after it.

Even if you ended up in an appointment on Tuesday just because your fit note has run out you haven't returned to work and the doctor can back date it to cover you. Do not return to work otherwise it'll count against you once you get the fit note and have to go off sick again.

Hi your initial post says your current fit note runs out on Mon so does the date of expiry say 23 July? In which case, if this is correct then you are covered by the note to be off work on Mon so call the surgery at 8am and let then know what is happening then any new sick note should start from Tue.

Hope that makes sense if I have understood you correctly.

It runs out 22nd July .
i just checked out of hours, its 111 so that’s no use really, idk why I’m panicking as I’m leaving soon but it’s the principal I think.

You call 2 days early and get told to get an appointment in August!

Work insisted i Ed I had to have the sick note Monday morning, I’m at the stage now where I think I’m gonna say “ I want Benedict Cumberbatch Monday morning too, but that’s not happening either!”

The only other way I can think of for you would be push doctor. Though just read on their website that you would occur £30 consultation fee and £15 fit note fee. Fit note would be sent to you by email.

Sorry suggestion failed, in which case you will need to phone in sick at the start of your shift and explain you are arranging to see the GP later that morning and tbst you will get s sick note then. It will be dated from 23 July so you will have continous cover.

Then you can contact your GP at 8am for an appointment.
