  • Redundancy issues

Hi, without revealing too much information due to possible detective work, i am in a redundancy situation.

The story is that we have about 20 staff, and about 4 are going to be laid off. The company has been very aggressive in the recruitment market and has employed about 6 staff in the past 3-6 months. The last 3 had their probation periods end just 10 days before HR informed us of the redundancy situation.

My argument will be that they knew about these redundancies yet they still allowed the new starters to carry on. I have evidence of this collusion, but thought I'd ask for some info and advice on it.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks very much.

As part of any redundancy process there should be consultation with staff. How long have you worked with your current employer?

As part of that process has the company stated the job types that are "at risk", why they are at risk and who is the affected "pool". Did the new starters come on board in different roles/areas of the business? Are they in roles/areas not affected by the redundancy process? Would they have been roles that could be considered as suitable alternative employment for those staff who are now in the affected pool.

A question you could ask as part of the consultation is when did the company become aware that it needed to consider a redundancy process?
