  • Contested invoice

We had a new fence and posts fitted 2 years ago for our house in the uk, we currently live in France.
After the work was carried out (we bought all materials) we received an invoice for 1400£.
shortly after it was completed our neighbour contacted us as the contractor had left concrete in his garden and he said the work was awful, we asked him to take a video and it was, the posts were moving and one fence panel wasn’t fixed.
we sent an email to the contractor with the video and he never replied, in fact we sent him 6 emails which they never replied to.
we rent this house out and in September he went to our letting agent with the invoice again for 1400£.
He has now been in contact via WhatsApp telling us that he’s going to take us to court and the invoice will now be 3000£.
we have sent him a copy of all our emails, which he has seen and now saying he will send the revised bill to us.
we are not sure what to do!

What have you done about this contractor's work and at what cost?
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now in academia. I do not advise by private message.
