Pap or LBA for small claim

I have started a small claim for Ł250 owed to me by a sole trader
My claim has been preceded by many texts and e mails to him requesting return of the money and advising of County Court action in the absence of payment
I am concerned now that my case may be prejudiced as I did not comply with PAP by issuing an LBA
Can anyone kindly advise?
