Hi
Please can someone help me. I defaulted on a northern rock loan for around £18k in 2011/2012 resulting in them selling the debt on and eventually getting a CCJ in 2014. I paid them a set amount monthly until 2019 when I experienced a mental health breakdown. In 2020 I sought advice and support from a mental health charity and asked them for a 30 day cooling off period and to freeze interest charges on the account. They replied taking off around £10k interest. I then heard nothing else for a long time and didn’t pay anything. In January 2024 Mortimer Clark sent me a letter stating “ we have been instructed by our client to close your account. Your
account has been referred back to our client and your debt remains outstanding. Our clients agent will be in touch.
I then started to get numerous daily calls from Cabot along with a few letters. Then emails stating a variety of things, pay this debt, you still owe us this money, call us so we can set up a payment plan etc. Today I’ve had a new email stating “ to make sure we’re managing our customers accounts in the right way we regularly review credit reference agency reports. From the data we’ve reviewed we believe your situation has improved. Contact us to pay your account.
They are right that it has changed, I’m working although in rented house, have new debts and just about keeping my head about water financially. Should I be worried about this new letter? I feel really unwell at the change in their tone & don’t know what to do. Can they go back to court? This will massively impact my ability to rent a house in the future
